5 Of my favorite beaches in Thailand

Railay Beach

Railay Beach

Since it isn’t possible to drive to this beach – it’s only accessible by sea – it stays pretty clear of tourists. One of the picture perfect beaches in Thailand, Railay Beach offers the famed white sand that thailand is so famous for. You can either rent a boat yourself or pay for a guide to bring you here. Railay is great for relaxing, catching some sun and just hanging out as it is quite peaceful. You can stay the night here as well in one of the number of small hotels or B&B’s available for rent here. At night, enjoy a cocktail at one of the bars overlooking the Andaman Sea, with the moon rising and soft music playing in the background. Railay is a must visit for anyone going to Thailand.

Phra Nang Beach

A bit more noisy than quiet Railay, Phra Nang Beach is one of the most popular beaches in Thailand. Here you can take part in any one of the number of activities offered, from kayaking and snorkeling in the pristine aquamarine waters, to hiking and exploring the towering limestone cliffs overlooking the beach. There are a number of trails taking you to the top of the cliffs which offer spectacular views of the beach – and sometimes hordes of tourists- below.

Phi Phi Don Beach

Perhaps one of the most idyllic and famous beaches in Thailand, Phi Phi Don is a popular destination among tourists. The pristine emerald-clear waters lead up to stunning white sand beaches. Since this beach has become so popular with tourists, it as attracted quite a crowd of entrepreneurial bar owners. You can find yourself kicking back with a coconut full of rum, a shooter with vodka or a tough whisky anywhere on this beach while enjoying the lovely tropical surroundings.

Phra Nang Beach

Another beach that is most easily accessed by boat, Phra Nang appears in many of the photographs the come up first when you search the internet for beaches in Thailand. Famous for the white cliffs that jut straight up out of the sea with a long tail boat in front, Phra Nang is considered one of the best beaches in the world and is a must see. Being that it is only accessible by boat, this beach remains quite calm and relaxing for someone looking for a retreat.

Haad Rin

Once a month, something amazing, wild, crazy, and unpredictable happens at Haad Rin beach. The legendary full moon party of Thailand happens here once a month and sees loads of booze thirsty young backpackers out for a binder. Even if you are not one for taking part in the party yourself, it is quite a spectacular event to even just witness. There are massive fires, people spinning poi and fire dancing, and all types of music. You are sure to meet some new and interesting people while attending one of the full moon parties at Haad Rin. During the day you will find hungover party goers relaxing on the beach and recovering from the night before.
